Diploma in Nautical Science
This course was started in the year 2006 in collaboration with IGNOU with an intake capacity of 40 trainees per year per batch. With the formation of Indian Maritime University, this course shall be conducted in collaboration with IMU from August 2009 onwards.
This program is divided in three stages:-
Stage 1 (Pre Sea): Semester I & II are covered in this stage. This consists of contact program in the institute (fully residential). Duration of this phase is 1 year at the end of which a trainee is awarded with Diploma in Nautical Science.
Stage 2: This stage consists of 1.5 years onboard training. Semester III, IV & V are covered in this stage. After completion of this phase trainees are awarded with Higher Diploma in Nautical Science.
Stage 3 (Post Sea): This is the last phase of the training. Semester VI is covered in this phase. The degree of B.Sc. Nautical Science is awarded by IMU and Certificate of Competency (COC) is issued by DG Shipping to the trainees at the end of this stage.
- Educational Qualification
I. Pass in 10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with a PCM aggregate of not less than 55%.
OR
II. With Physics as individual subject in one of the year, B. Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year.
OR
III. B.E./B.Tech. Degree from I.I.T or from a college recognized by AICTE
And should have passed with English language as a subject, at either 10th or 12th standard conducted by the any Board with a score not less than 50% marks.
- Age Limit: Not more than 25 years on the date course starts.
Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000. Separate psychological test by Mercantile Marine Department also be conducted prior to admission.
6/6 in each eye without visual aids. And no colour blind. As per the DGS guideline, candidates have to undergo a full eyesight test before being finally selected for the course.
